Job Title: Fisheries Management Professional

The Opportunity:
We have a challenging opportunity for an experienced fisheries management professional to be part of our Commercial Fisheries group, working closely with stakeholders and other government departments to develop sustainable fish stocks.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide advice to the Executive Director on fisheries management, balancing competing interests and views while ensuring effective application of sustainable practices. You will work within a team to consider legal, economic and science issues, engaging with commercial and recreational fishers, environmental groups, and other key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To manage and conserve South Australian fisheries through consultative engagement with stakeholders;
  • To work closely with the Aquatic Sciences group to deliver science-based advice on fisheries management;
  • To provide expert advice to the Executive Director on fisheries management;
  • To balance competing interests and views, maintaining sustainable fish stocks.

Requirements:

  • Possession of a current driver's licence;
  • Willingness to drive and travel;
  • Australian residency or current works permit;
  • Ability to undertake emergency management training and participate in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery activities;
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
