Tackling Indigenous Smoking

Anyingini Health Aboriginal Corporation is a dynamic organisation providing primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region. We are seeking an experienced Community Health Specialist to join our Kalpa Purru Wirranjarlki – Public Health Services Section.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to closing the gap in Indigenous health outcomes by reducing tobacco smoking as the most significant risk factor for chronic disease among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples within our Barkly Region. You will work closely with community, developing and implementing strategies to promote smoke-free spaces, reduce tobacco use and support smoking cessation initiatives.
About the Role:
- Develop, coordinate and facilitate positive engagement, interventions and activities in accordance with the TIS program guidelines and organisational policies and practices.
- Assist the Team Leader and Communications and Education Officer in delivering regional smoking prevention campaigns, community events, forums and information sharing that promotes tobacco awareness, cessation and smoke-free environments.
- Support the development of sustainable networks with communities across the Barkly Region.
- Work collaboratively with the National Best Practice Unit (NBPU) to identify, develop and assist in delivering responsive smoking prevention and cessation social marketing campaigns.
About You:
- You must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
- Hold a minimum Cert. III in Aboriginal Health or equivalent or be willing to undertake training to receive this qualification.
- Have experience working in Aboriginal community health or welfare services, with a strong understanding of culturally responsive programs and services.
- Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with diverse Aboriginal community groups.
We offer:
- A competitive salary of $61,005 - $65,562 per annum.
- Generous salary packaging of $15,899.94 per annum.
- A professional development incentive of $1,500 per annum.
- A remote retention allowance of $750.
- 6 weeks annual leave and further benefits including free general dentistry.
