A key component of the electricity system's operational backbone, our team is at the forefront of providing high-quality data and systems to support real-time decision-making.

We are seeking a skilled professional to join our Operational Forecasting team, which plays a critical role in delivering accurate short-term forecasts that inform network outage planning, reliability assessments, and real-time operational decisions across the National Electricity Market (NEM) and Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM).

With a focus on expanding our capability to address the complexity of forecasting an increasingly weather-dependent power system, this exciting opportunity offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in shaping the future of energy forecasting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage operational forecasting models for electricity demand, rooftop PV, grid-scale solar farms, and wind farms, ensuring accuracy and reliability in forecast outputs.
  • Collaborate closely with weather providers and control rooms to integrate weather risks into system impacts, providing operators with timely and actionable information.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and markets to align tools, data, and forecasting processes between the NEM and WEM, driving consistency and efficiency.
  • Contribute insights and expertise to operational advisories, power system incident reviews, and market reports, supporting secure and reliable power system operations.
  • Support upgrades and enhancements to forecasting applications, data analytics, and digital solutions to improve performance, reliability, and scalability.
Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or a related statistical discipline.
  • Proven experience in the energy sector or similar industry, preferably in operations, forecasting, or analytical roles.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including experience preparing high-quality reports and presentations to communicate complex technical information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis, statistical modelling, and visualisation tools, including PowerBI, Databricks, SQL, and Excel.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment, managing multiple projects and priorities effectively.
