The role of a Senior Media Communications Specialist is to bring our voice to life through traditional media by managing reactive media enquiries and delivering proactive content.
About the Role
- Communicate effectively with journalists, pitch stories effectively, and create engaging social media content while maintaining strong relationships.
- Develop compelling media releases, opinion pieces, communication plans, speeches, and briefing materials that meet the highest standards.
- Work alongside the Social Media Specialist to ensure that stories reach the right audiences.
- Manage issues and crises as they arise, utilizing sound judgement and effective communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Media Engagement – Respond promptly to reactive media enquiries, deliver proactive content, manage interviews, brief spokespeople, and develop collateral.
- Social media – Create and post engaging content that supports media activity while providing backup to the Social Media Specialist when required.
- Issues & Crisis Management – Utilize effective communication skills to support in managing issues and crises as they arise.
- Reporting & Analysis – Provide daily news updates, tailored reports, track emerging issues, and share insights with stakeholders using media monitoring platforms.

- Media Relations Expertise – Experience in front-line media roles with a proven track record of generating positive coverage.
- Advocacy & Political Awareness – Strong understanding of traditional and social media in advocacy and knowledge of political processes.
- Exceptional Writing Skills – Ability to craft compelling content that meets the highest standards.
- Relationship Building – Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Insights & Continuous Improvement – Familiarity with media monitoring, analytics, and emerging trends to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
