This role is part of the youth justice system, focused on supporting Aboriginal children in custody and centre staff.

The Official Visitor provides a cultural connection for these young people, helping them communicate and negotiate their issues and concerns.

About the Role

Official Visitors work to resolve enquiries and complaints made by young people in custody, while also monitoring the conditions and treatment of young people in custodial centres throughout New South Wales (NSW).

An Official Visitor is assigned to a youth justice centre for up to four years and visits the centre once a fortnight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support and understanding to Aboriginal children in custody and help them communicate and negotiate their issues and concerns.
  • Resolve enquiries and complaints made by young people in custody.
  • Assist in monitoring the conditions and treatment of young people in custodial centres.
Requirements
  • A national criminal history record check.
  • A working with children clearance.
