The Salvation Army is seeking a dedicated and empathetic support worker to join our mission-driven team in Melbourne.
This role offers an opportunity to walk alongside people in their toughest moments and help them rediscover hope, safety, and stability.
About The Role
You will be on the frontline of our crisis response – offering immediate support, guidance, and access to safe, affordable accommodation for people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
- Provide person-centred assessments and help individuals and families access essential housing options.
- Connect clients to support services, community resources, and our wider network.
- Develop action and safety plans that address immediate risks, vulnerabilities, and support pathways.
- Offer trauma-informed, strengths-based support tailored to those with complex needs.
- Collaborate with dedicated professionals who share a vision for a just and inclusive society.
What You Will Need
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Compassion and resilience, working with a calm and optimistic approach.
- Experience in working with individuals who present with complex needs.
- Strong communication skills, where you can navigate difficult conversations with empathy and clarity.
- Confidence in building collaborative relationships with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
- Alignment with our values of Integrity, Compassion, Respect, Diversity, and Collaboration.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Welfare, or a related field – or significant relevant experience.
- The ability to undertake thorough assessments, manage referrals, and develop support plans.
- A commitment to culturally safe, inclusive, and client-focused practice.
- A current Working with Children Check.
