Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Trade Overseer to join our Ground Maintenance Unit at the Hunter Correctional Centre.

About the Role: As a Trade Overseer, you will be responsible for supervising and developing inmates through managing, coaching, instructing, and encouraging them as members of a team to improve work skills, enhance post-release employment prospects, and contribute to Business Unit objectives.

  • You will oversee the activities of the team to ensure productivity, efficiency, and achievement of commercial objectives while meeting Workplace Health & Safety, Quality Management requirements, and customer service needs.

Responsibilities: Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Supervise and develop inmates through managing, coaching, instructing, and encouraging them as members of a team to improve work skills, enhance post-release employment prospects, and contribute to Business Unit objectives.
  2. Oversee the activities of the team to ensure productivity, efficiency, and achievement of commercial objectives while meeting Workplace Health & Safety, Quality Management requirements, and customer service needs.
  3. Support and train inmates and staff in work-related activities within the correctional centre.
  4. E nsure compliance with Work Health & Safety policies and related legislation.
  5. Be willing to work across varying trades in a flexible manner to support the team.
  6. Maintain a 5-day roster (rotating shifts).

Qualifications and Requirements: To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A trade qualification in Horticulture (Landscaping or Parks & Gardens), Construction, Carpentry, Plumbing, or other related trade (Certificate 3 Minimum).
  • A current Certificate III in Correctional Practice or have the capacity to complete Certificate III in Correctional Practice within specified CSNSW timeframes.
  • A current NSW Driver Licence and be prepared to drive a vehicle while performing the role.
  • Forklift Licence or willingness to obtain one.
