Job Title: Wilderness Management Officer

This role offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the conservation and management of Central Queensland's natural wonders and cultural treasures. As a permanent Wilderness Management Officer, you will work closely with First Nations people to develop and implement operational plans that promote sustainable park management practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operational Planning: Develop and deliver annual work plans in collaboration with team members to ensure effective resource allocation and management of park assets.
  • Asset Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and operation of power equipment and tools to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Compliance and Enforcement: Conduct compliance inspections and enforce regulations to protect the park's natural and cultural resources.
  • Team Supervision: Provide on-ground supervision to field-based staff and foster a collaborative team environment to achieve shared goals.
  • Administrative Tasks: Assist with emergency response efforts as needed and maintain accurate records of workplace health and safety protocols.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Formal qualifications in Conservation and Land Management are highly regarded but not mandatory; however, relevant experience in wilderness management is essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team, as a supervisor, and independently.
  • Practical skills and experience in the maintenance and operation of power equipment and tools for asset maintenance.
  • Ability to undertake law enforcement and compliance duties as part of park management, with a willingness to assist with emergency response and incident management.
  • Commitment to a positive attitude, adaptability, and flexibility to service requirements.
  • Ability to provide information to visitors and stakeholders, contributing to workforce diversity efforts.
