Financial Project Specialist

The Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd is undergoing a significant transformation under its strategic plan: MACS 2030. This exciting time calls for an experienced Financial Project Specialist to support the successful delivery of our major ERP transformation.

This role will ensure financial integrity, compliance, and robust reporting while partnering with Finance, IT, and project stakeholders. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing, managing, and maintaining project budgets in collaboration with the ERP program team.
  • Preparing detailed monthly and quarterly financial reports, including forecasts, actuals, and variance analysis against budget and previous projections.
  • Monitoring capital and operating expenditure classifications to ensure accurate accounting treatment in line with accounting standards and internal policy.
  • Supporting financial input into change requests, scope variations, and project re-baselining activities.
  • Building strong working relationships with Finance, IT, Procurement, and project workstream leads to ensure cohesive financial planning and execution.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in project accounting, preferably within large-scale ERP implementations, with a strong understanding of capitalisation rules, cost allocation, and accounting standards applicable to IT and transformation projects.

They will also possess proven ability to develop and maintain complex financial models, provide accurate forecasts, variance analysis, and cost reporting, with advanced skills in Excel and reporting and dashboard tools.

Key selection criteria include experience in preparing high-quality financial reports, presentations, and executive-level briefings, with the ability to tailor messaging and data visualisation to suit both financial and non-financial audiences.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Advanced degree in finance or accounting.
  • Proven experience in project accounting, preferably within large-scale ERP implementations.
  • Strong understanding of capitalisation rules, cost allocation, and accounting standards applicable to IT and transformation projects.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and provide strategic financial insights.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
