Job Title: Community Engagement Officer

About the Role

This is a key position within our organization that plays a pivotal role in strengthening cultural practice in case management and supporting case managers with the cultural challenges associated with young offenders from an African background.

You will provide strategic advice and champion relevant initiatives across the region, particularly in Melbourne's western suburbs and locations including Werribee and Sunshine.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Establishing and maintaining supportive linkages between justice agencies and community organizations.
  • Providing policy advice and promoting relevant initiatives within the region.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

  • A knowledge and understanding of the African community, both society and culture, and the issues impacting on it, particularly in relation to young people.
  • Experience or an understanding of working with young people with complex needs at high risk of offending in the community.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to build strong relationships and address conflict.

Requirements:

You should have a Bachelor of Social Work or Diploma in Community Services Work and a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) card.
