Auxiliary Firefighter Role Overview

This role is ideal for those who wish to make a positive impact in their community by contributing to emergency response and prevention activities.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with other team members to respond to emergencies and participate in training exercises.

  • Key Accountabilities:
  • Respond to fire and emergency incidents as part of a team.
  • Promote community safety and emergency preparedness through education activities.
  • Develop and maintain competencies through regular drills and training courses.
  • Maintain attendance standards for emergency incidents and training.
  • Operate specialist firefighting equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Contribute to upkeep and hygiene of station facilities.
  • Ensure maintenance and repair of operational equipment and station facilities.
  • Contribute to incident reporting and general station administration.
Required Skills and Qualifications

Eligible applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a current Blue Card or be eligible to apply for one.
  • Have employers' written consent to attend incidents and emergencies.
  • Live or work within a reasonable distance of an auxiliary fire station.
  • Be an Australian Permanent Resident.
  • Hold a Manual C Class driver's licence.

Successful applicants will also be required to commit to attending 50% of calls as a day worker with routine hours, or 30% of calls as a shift worker or non-routine hours. Additionally, they will need to attend 75% of regular drill and training sessions, obtain an MRV licence within 12 months of employment, and participate in ongoing skills acquisition and maintenance programs.
