About the Position

We are seeking an experienced professional to lead our open spaces operations. The Port Macquarie-Hastings area is rich in natural beauty, with a diverse network of parks, reserves, sports fields, and beaches that are vital to the community's wellbeing and environmental sustainability.

Effective management and innovation are crucial as the region continues to grow, increasing demand for high-quality, well-maintained open spaces.

Main Responsibilities
  • Plan, prioritize, and deliver operations across parks, reserves, sports fields, beaches, and natural areas.
  • Oversee maintenance programs, monitor budgets, and manage resources for efficient and sustainable service delivery.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance support to staff to build a high-performing team.
  • Engage with the community, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality services and projects.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and relevant policies, driving continuous improvement in operational practices.
  • Prepare reports, briefings, and updates for senior leadership to inform strategic decision-making and operational planning.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualifications or extensive experience in horticulture, environment, parks and open space management, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in operational management, including planning, budgeting, and resourcing of open space and natural assets.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to engage effectively with staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate challenges, assess risks, and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience managing multiple workstreams, competing priorities, and achieving outcomes on time and to quality standards.
  • Knowledge of WHS, environmental legislation, and compliance requirements.
