About the Opportunity:

The Ipswich State High School has a number of signature programs that have been developed over time. These programs make it a choice of schooling in Ipswich and the surrounding areas. The school offers designated DoE Programs of Excellence, allowing enrolments from outside of catchment. These include STEM, Dance, Rugby League, Hair and Beauty, and Construction and Horticulture programs. Additionally, the school is a Mature Age School, catering to older students.

Our student body comprises approximately 30% Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, Maori or Pacific Islander backgrounds, with more than 10% born overseas. We also host refugee enrolments who receive tailored EALD support as part of our International Student Program.

About the Role:

As the Head of Department, you will lead the development, articulation, and commitment to a shared educational vision focused on providing quality learning outcomes for all students. This includes embedding socially just practices in daily school life, setting high standards for student and staff performance, and actively participating in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.

You will form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups, while being futures-oriented and strategic. It is essential to understand the legislation and policies impacting schooling, especially regarding students and staff within the school department.
