The Eye Health Nurse Coordinator is a pivotal position at Broken Hill Hospital, delivering clinical nursing leadership in Ophthalmic Nursing to achieve optimal outcomes for patients with Ophthalmic conditions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for improving access, coordination and management of eye health services, including provision to assist in remote outreach clinics, inclusive of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander Communities to reduce the burden of eye disease in the Far West Local Health District communities.
- Provide clinical assessment, coordination and case management of outpatients in collaboration with Ophthalmology Consultants.
- Ensure safe delivery of high-quality evidence-based patient-centred care, adhering to policy, hospital protocols and procedures relating to clinical practice and environmental safety.
- Develop, deliver and evaluate high-quality education and training resources for nursing staff, provide direct clinical support and supervision.
- Liaise with Nurse Unit Manager and other team members to ensure effective communication regarding planned and unplanned changes in patient and clinic management.
This role requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
The ideal candidate will have postgraduate tertiary qualifications in Ophthalmic Nursing or working towards same, with 12 months of commencement, including membership to AONA (Australian Ophthalmic Nursing Association).
A minimum of three years postgraduate nursing experience, with two years clinical experience within the specialty of Ophthalmic Nursing is required. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APRHA) and a current NSW driver's license are also essential.
