Backend Software Engineer Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Backend Software Engineer to design and implement backend features within an existing service architecture. The successful candidate will build and maintain services that power user experiences and internal systems at scale.

The engineer will write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code with guidance from more experienced engineers. Collaboration is key in this role as the engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand problems and ship high-quality solutions.

Participating in code reviews, pair programming, and technical discussions as part of a supportive team is also crucial in this role. Continuous learning through mentorship, feedback, and exposure to different parts of our engineering stack is encouraged and supported.

Technical Requirements:

  • Building Backend Systems: Experience in building backend systems using Java in a production environment.
  • Java Fundamentals: Strong Java fundamentals and ability to confidently write production-grade code, applying backend concepts like multithreading, service design, and performance optimization in real-world systems.
  • Distributed Systems: Understanding of the basics of distributed systems and comfort in developing and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to work through problems from design to deployment with support from your team.
  • Sound Engineering Practices: Sound engineering practices such as testing, monitoring, and documentation, and writing clean, maintainable code.
  • Collaboration: Enjoyment of collaborating with engineers, designers, and product managers to build end-to-end solutions.
  • Initiative and Improvement: Taking initiative, seeking feedback, and always looking to improve your craft and contribute to your team's success.
  • Ai and Programming: Hands-on experience using AI in coding/programming to drive greater impact.
