Job Title: Clinical Psychologist - Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Program

Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is a leading provider of comprehensive primary health care services in the Northern Territory. As a fully accredited Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, KWHB is funded by both Australian and Northern Territory Government healthcare grants. They deliver preventative, clinical, and emergency care across the remote outback region southwest of Katherine, with a focus on improving the health and wellbeing of all people in the area while providing a strong community voice in matters affecting their health.

About the Role

The Family, Domestic, and Sexual Violence (FDSV) Program is a new initiative in the Northern Territory, and we are seeking a Clinical Psychologist to join our team. As a key member of our program, you will have the opportunity to shape the program from its inception and contribute to its foundational development. By delivering trauma-informed care, this program aims to make a profound and positive impact on the lives of women and children in the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop personalised recovery plans to address clients' mental health needs and support their healing journeys.
  • Implement trauma-informed care principles to create a safe and supportive environment.
  • Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including facilitating therapeutic groups.
  • Educate clients, families, and community groups about trauma, its effects, and coping strategies.
  • Collaborate with local organisations and agencies to ensure coordinated access to essential services.
Requirements
  • AHPRA registration as a Psychologist
  • Strong background in trauma-informed care and experience with trauma survivors.
  • Capacity to establish and maintain therapeutic relationships and professional boundaries.
  • Understanding of health and wellbeing issues affecting Aboriginal people in remote Northern Territory.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with vulnerable populations.
What's on Offer

Katherine West Health Board is a client-led organisation that fosters a culture of passion and support. The Katherine region offers a lifestyle rich in nature-based recreational activities such as fishing, bushwalking, camping, canoeing, and swimming.

Additionally, you will benefit from:

  • Being part of a new project and having a voice in its development
  • Expanding your professional network through cross-collaboration with large organisations
  • Career development with diverse exposure, supporting clients through mental health and psychosocial services for victims and their families
  • Joining an organisation that is deeply committed to both the communities they serve and their employees, offering debriefing services and support for managing vicarious trauma.
