We are a leading recruitment agency specialising in legal and technical roles. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our client's in-house legal team.
Job Overview:
The role will focus on providing expert legal advice on data privacy laws, particularly concerning data commercialisation initiatives. You will develop and implement data protection strategies aligned with the organisation's goals, draft, review, and negotiate data-sharing agreements, privacy policies, and other related documents.
You will advise on the legal aspects of new data-driven products and services, ensuring compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other regulations. Additionally, you will monitor changes in data protection laws and adjust practices accordingly. Conduct risk assessments and audits to identify and mitigate privacy risks.
You will represent the organisation in discussions with regulatory authorities and partners on data privacy issues. Partner with other business areas and provide holistic legal advice to support ongoing initiatives.
Requirements:
- Unrestricted Victorian Legal Practicing Certificate is essential.
- Tertiary legal qualification is required.
- A minimum of 8 years' PQE is necessary, with no upper limit.
- Strong knowledge of global data privacy laws, including Privacy & Data Protection Act 2014 (Victoria) and Privacy Act 1988, is essential.
- Experience in drafting and negotiating complex data-sharing agreements is required.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to balance legal risks and business opportunities are necessary.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines is essential.
