Leadership Opportunity

A strategic role has become available at a market leader in the exchange-traded fund industry. The company operates a wealth platform designed to help Australians financially progress and aims to become a one-stop platform for investing and saving.

This position offers an opportunity to join the engineering leadership team, responsible for scaling delivery of products through people management, embedding AI into workflows, vendor coordination, and operational excellence.

The successful candidate will be empowered to manage the P&L, budget, and lead a high-performing engineering team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Become a member of the senior leadership team
• Collaborate with other business units to ensure technology aligns with business objectives
• Represent Engineering internally as a subject matter expert when required
• Help build the company's reputation as a technology leader and create financial products with great customer experiences
• Build, lead, and mentor a high-performance engineering and technology team
• Own engineering team structure, career development, hiring, and scaling to optimize delivery
• Drive career development, run performance reviews, and manage promotions
• Champion and implement AI tools and workflows to increase engineering throughput; embed AI into product delivery and backlog management
• Own velocity and delivery predictability across front-end and back-end teams
• Foster a high-cadence, risk-aware feature and product development function
• Review team structure and implement changes as required
• Unblock tech leads with strong collaboration with Product Management and Design
• Escalate and resolve interdependencies across platforms (web, mobile, core platform)
• Co-manage resources and ensure efficient use of resources
• Own third-party vendor relationships
• Own technology due diligence, security audits, integration planning, roadmap alignment, team integration, and risk management

Requirements:

• Proven track record of scaling an engineering team with AI
• Experience architecting applications in cloud-based environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Exposure to architecture patterns such as event-driven and microservices
• Exposure to Golang or Rust is beneficial
• Exposure to container orchestration services such as Kubernetes or AWS Fargate is highly desirable
• Exposure to accounting/financial services is beneficial
• CI/CD expertise with modern pipelines and practices for high-cadence deployments
• Monitoring and observability using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog, or similar
• Data engineering experience with data pipelines, ETL processes, and tools like Airflow or Kafka
• API design experience for secure, scalable RESTful or GraphQL APIs
• Front-end exposure can aid cross-functional collaboration, though the role is backend-focused
• Experience managing resources
• Experience in FinTech and startup environments is beneficial
• Experience building and managing high-performance teams

Technical Stack:

The company has a polyglot engineering team. A minimum of at least one default language is preferred. Our stack evolves and includes: Postgres, Redshift, AWS, Temporal, Kubernetes, Vault, Cloudflare Workers.
