Key Role in Student Support

Social workers play a vital part in supporting students' mental wellbeing and providing assistance to those facing various challenges. The role involves assessing client needs, developing care plans, connecting clients with resources and services, advocating for their rights, and offering emotional support.


About the Position

The focus of this role is on providing support for students with mild to moderate mental health concerns. You will work as part of schools' established student support teams to enhance wellbeing and mental health support available to students.

  • Provide expert guidance and information for students, parents, carers, and school communities to facilitate partnerships in decision making for the enhancement of all students' learning.
  • Utilize evidence-based intervention strategies to support young people experiencing challenges with mental health, social and emotional wellbeing.
  • Deliver therapeutic counselling and support through individual or group sessions to address mild to moderate mental health concerns.
  • Facilitate referrals to other allied health professionals and services and assist students and families to access this support.
  • Support school communities by responding to critical incidents and emergencies as a part of the school response team.
  • Develop and/or maintain appropriate data collection and confidential records keeping and reporting systems for individual students referred for social work services in line with department procedures and policies.
  • Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team within an educational setting, providing support to schools, community, and inter agency/networks relevant to the position.
