About the Role

This is a key role that requires a strong understanding of development engineering principles and practices. As a Principal Development Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing all engineering and public infrastructure matters related to private development projects across the Mid Coast.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Development Engineering team and drive innovative solutions to ensure compliance with Council's infrastructure-related conditions.
  • Manage the assessment of development applications and applications for civil works, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Provide strategic leadership to implement best practices in development engineering and public infrastructure management.
  • Develop and implement systems to monitor and report on the team's performance, ensuring services are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Support a positive organisational culture by fostering collaboration across teams, mentoring staff, and driving continuous improvement in processes and standards.
Requirements
  • Qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related field and extensive experience in a similar local government role.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing teams within a community-focused or politically sensitive setting.
  • Strong knowledge of legislative and professional requirements related to development engineering.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to manage stakeholders and resolve conflicts.
  • A track record of delivering projects on time and within budget, with demonstrated success in driving operational efficiencies.

Additional 3.5% Civil Liability Allowance on top of the base salary.

A fully maintained leaseback vehicle for both business and private use.

This position is based at our state-of-the-art Administration Centre, Yalawanyi Ganya, in Taree.

You may also be required to work across other Mid Coast Council sites.

Permanent, Full-Time.
