About the Role:
The Community Centre Worker plays a vital part in supporting Victoria's most vulnerable population.
Working under the direction of the Community Centre Manager, this role involves providing assistance and information to service users, helping them access food services, hygiene facilities, and OPS programming.
The Community Centre Worker participates directly in the provision of services, resolves complex issues, and maintains a welcoming environment for diverse individuals, including those with mental or physical disabilities, people with addictions, women, and Aboriginal people.
Main Responsibilities:- Create a safe and calm environment for service users, monitoring the space and intervening as needed to ensure safety and respect policies.
- Respond to crisis situations, including medical emergencies and overdoses, communicating effectively with team members and seeking assistance when required.
- Develop and implement short-term intervention plans within program guidelines, consulting with supervisors on housing referrals, income assistance forms, and other essential services.
- Maintain a clean and tidy facility, ensuring all patrons are welcome and comfortable.
- Collaborate with partner agencies and professionals dealing with homelessness, participating in cross-agency working groups as necessary.
- Monitor use of the community centre, addressing any issues related to service user safety and taking action to maintain a secure environment.
Requirements:
- Diploma in a related human or social services field.
- Current First Aid certification.
- One year of recent experience in a related field.
Benefits:
This full-time position offers a competitive hourly rate, 36 hours per week, and comprehensive benefits, including health and dental coverage after completion of the probationary period. Union membership is required.
