The Australian Electoral Commission is responsible for maintaining an impartial and independent electoral system. This includes active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

Staff at the Commission work according to core values of quality, agility, and professionalism. These values ensure electoral integrity through a framework of values that include ensuring quality in all aspects of service delivery.

You will work with a team responsible for promoting electoral participation among diverse communities. The team focuses on ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a voice in elections. This involves working with other members of the community who may experience barriers to electoral participation, including people with disabilities and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

This role plays a key part in building a bigger voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australian elections. You will manage national projects and programs related to Indigenous Electoral Participation, working with the AEC network to deliver accessible electoral services nationally and contributing to section planning aligning with agency goals.

Your knowledge and expertise will be used to help the community engagement section succeed in making elections more accessible for diverse communities.

  • An understanding of challenges and opportunities for diverse communities when providing government services.
  • Knowledge of policy, political, and cultural issues relating to public sector program/service delivery for special audiences.
  • Ability to provide high-quality advice and guidance to leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Leadership and communication skills to guide a small team.
