Senior Communications Specialist

About the Role

This is a senior-level position in a fast-paced environment, requiring exceptional communication skills and strategic thinking. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing media relations, developing communications strategies, and providing support to senior staff.

The role involves working closely with various stakeholders, including media organizations, business groups, unions, and community organizations. A high level of discretion and confidentiality is required when handling sensitive information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement media strategies for budget messaging, economic policy announcements, and financial initiatives
  • Contribute to fast-paced communications planning and response for economic and treasury-related matters
  • Act as a primary media contact for treasury-related inquiries, including managing media conferences, briefings, and exclusive interviews
  • Coordinate communications for major economic announcements with relevant departments and agencies
  • Support senior staff in engaging with interstate and international counterparts on economic matters

Requirements:

  • Significant senior experience in communications or media, preferably in government, politics, or economic sectors
  • Demonstrated experience managing high-stakes media relations and crisis communications
  • Deep understanding of the media landscape, particularly economic and political journalism
  • Ability to collaborate with policy teams to translate technical and economic content into clear, compelling public messaging
  • Proficiency in digital communications platforms and social media management
  • Experience with freedom of information processes and government transparency requirements
