We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Manager to join our team at the Australian Antarctic Division. As a key member of our Assets and Technology Branch, you will be responsible for leading the construction of built infrastructure at our Antarctic and sub-Antarctic stations.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and coordinate the safe undertaking of all on-site activities carried out by a group of trades personnel or contractors.
- Review and provide input to design for constructability.
- Produce detailed works plans for the Summer and Winter construction periods to optimise resources and time on station.
- Develop scopes of work for subcontractors and suppliers.
- Co-ordinate the development of detailed cost plans for the delivery, construction, installation and commissioning of new and significant upgrades to Antarctic infrastructure.
- Incorporate workplace health and safety, environmental protection and energy efficiency measures into infrastructure designs.
- Develop conceptual infrastructure designs in a wide range of engineering fields with a focus on cold region engineering and prefabrication.
- Identify and evaluate risk at all levels of engineering projects – safety, environmental and financial, and schedule and formulate and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Develop and maintain project documentation, including safety plans, quality control schemes, season plans and progress reports.
- A relevant engineering or construction degree from an Australian tertiary institution, or a comparable overseas institution, or hold a relevant trade certificate with demonstrated equivalent experience in a similar role.
- Recent on-site supervisory and managerial experience relating to construction activities in the building or general construction industry overseeing the workload of a multi-disciplined trade group.
- Knowledge of building construction and construction methodologies, ideally within cold climate environments.
- Knowledge of infrastructure services including electrical and water distribution, water treatment, heating, sewer and fire systems.
- Experience maintaining appropriate work site safety procedures, including sound knowledge of work health and safety standards.
- Current or very recent proficiency in risk assessments and job hazard analyses relating to building and construction works or maintenance.
- Sound experience with identification and purchase of materials associated with the building maintenance programs and construction of new works.
