Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Oxford Nanopore Technologies Full time

Oxford Nanopore Technologies is a leading company in the field of nanopore sequencing, with a presence in multiple global locations. We are seeking a highly motivated and driven individual to join our Technical Services team as a Field Application Scientist covering Australia and New Zealand.

This exciting role involves working within a cross-functional team to provide high-quality technical expertise, training, and representation for our products. You will work to strengthen our relationship with scientists to ensure the appropriate application of our products to their research.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing front-line applications support to customers on all aspects of the nanopore sequencing workflow
  • Assisting customers in experimental design, data collection, data management, pipeline development, data analysis, workflow implementation, and validation
  • Providing high-quality technical expertise to customers
  • Troubleshooting, learning, and implementing new methods of identifying customer problems and suggesting working solutions based on our products
  • Coordinating and delivering trainings at customer sites; attending conferences and Nanopore Days
  • Working with the regional Technical Applications and Sales teams to provide support to strategic customer accounts
  • Supporting the onboarding, certification, and maintenance of Service Provider Accounts
  • Recording and documenting all relevant information from customers and prospective customers into the CRM
  • Onboarding and mentoring junior members of the team

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in bioinformatics, molecular biology, and genetics, with experience in lab work and knowledge of novel experimental design, sample preparation methodologies, data analysis, and biological phenomena interpretation. Strong bioinformatics skills are preferable, as well as knowledge and experience on NGS platforms and experience in presenting, teaching, or training other scientists. We expect technical competency to understand and clearly discuss fundamental theory and principles of experimental design, techniques, and results, as well as proficiency with data visualization and analysis techniques. An approachable manner that encourages interaction with others and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction are essential. Some travel (~30-50%) is a part of this role, depending on how efficient remote support is implemented. You must have working rights to work in Australia (we do not offer sponsorship for this role). We offer outstanding benefits, including an attractive bonus, generous pension contributions, private healthcare, and an excellent starting salary. Based within beautiful, landscaped surroundings with tree-lined walks, water features, and a lake, all of which make for a wonderful working environment.
