NAAJA's civil law practice is a high-performing and dynamic team, with a strong focus on policy development and advocacy. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Policy Lawyer to join our team as a Senior Policy Lawyer - Coronial Inquests.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement policy strategies to advance NAAJA's interests in Coronial Inquests, working closely with the Managing Civil Lawyer and Deputy Managing Civil Lawyer.
- Provide high-level advice to the NAAJA executive on policy matters related to Coronial Inquests, including submissions, briefing papers, and reports.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including Aboriginal organisations and networks, to advance NAAJA's policy objectives.
- Conduct research and analysis to inform policy development and advocacy, including identifying new and emerging issues and developing policy responses.
- Represent NAAJA in policy forums and meetings, including with Commonwealth and NT Government Ministers and senior executives.
- Provide support and guidance to NAAJA staff on policy matters, including training and induction.
- Lead the Coronial Inquest Practice Group, working closely with the Managing and Deputy Managing Civil Lawyer and the Coronial Inquest Practice Group Consultant.
- Highly motivated and experienced Senior Policy Lawyer with a strong understanding of policy development and advocacy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to identify new and emerging issues and develop policy responses.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality results.
- Strong understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander context and the role of NAAJA in advancing the rights and interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
