Casual Student Counsellor Opportunities

We are currently seeking multiple Casual Student Counsellors to join our team, working under broad direction and exercising autonomy. You will collaborate with other team members to provide a responsive and effective service to enrolled students.

A Casual Student Counsellor assesses student needs and works with diverse clients using various therapeutic models with a focus on short-term interventions. They also support academic and professional staff in creating a University environment that promotes student wellbeing.

The Division of Academic and Student Engagement partners with students, staff, and the broader community to deliver an outstanding student experience. Our transformational opportunities in learning and teaching are at the heart of the student experience.

Key responsibilities:

  • Flexible working hours between 9:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday, with occasional requirements to start work with little notice.
  • Extensive experience in providing therapeutic counselling, assessment, risk assessment, and crisis intervention.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of complex student needs within a tertiary education setting.
  • Well-developed ability to establish rapport and form a therapeutic alliance with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team and liaise, negotiate, and resolve conflict in complex situations.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and extensive relevant experience.
  • Eligibility to register with the Psychology Board of Australia or the Australian Association of Social Work.
  • A valid Working with Children Check is required.
