Health and Safety Professional

The role of a Health and Safety Professional is to play a pivotal part in maintaining a safe and healthy environment within an organization. This position involves collaborating with various departments to develop, implement, and monitor health and safety programs, policies, and procedures. As a key member of the team, you will conduct risk assessments, provide expert guidance on safety regulations, and contribute to the overall well-being of all employees.

About the Role

As a Health and Safety Professional, you will be responsible for conducting regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend preventive measures to mitigate risks. You will also provide expert advice and guidance to management and staff on health and safety matters, promoting a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend and implement preventive measures to mitigate risks.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to management and staff on health and safety matters, promoting a proactive safety culture throughout the organisation.
  • Stay aware of relevant occupational health and safety regulations, updating policies accordingly to ensure compliance with legal standards.
  • Collaborate with various departments to deliver targeted health and safety training programs, fostering awareness and competence among employees.

Mentor both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal staff at all levels of the organisation to build their capability.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must possess strong analytical and assessment skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and have experience developing and delivering relevant health and safety training programs. A Certificate IV (or higher) in Work Health and Safety (or similar) is essential, as is a demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to the cultural context of Aboriginal health and ability to tailor health and safety initiatives to meet the unique needs of Aboriginal health.
