The Childcare Specialist plays a pivotal role in children's growth and development, extending beyond mere supervision. They actively contribute to the attainment of developmental milestones while fostering curiosity through engaging, age-appropriate experiences.
Key Responsibilities:- Program Development & Child Progress:
The Childcare Specialist designs and implements stimulating educational programs aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). This includes facilitating intentional teaching moments through play-based activities such as storytelling, music, art, and sensory exploration. Additionally, they observe and document children's progress to support individual learning goals and share insights with families. Moreover, they guide social-emotional development by modelling positive behaviour and conflict resolution strategies. - Daily Care & Wellbeing:
- Maintaining a clean and hygienic environment is crucial, including tasks such as nappy changing, toileting assistance, and mealtime supervision. Creating predictable routines provides children with emotional security while allowing flexibility for spontaneous learning opportunities. Conducting thorough safety checks of indoor/outdoor environments and resources before activities ensures a secure environment. Administering first aid when required and following health management plans for children with additional needs is also essential.
- Family & Community Engagement:
- Building trusting relationships with families through daily conversations and formal progress updates is vital. Collaborating with room leaders to create displays that make children's learning visible to parents strengthens family connections. Participating in community events and centre initiatives further enhances these relationships.
- Compliance & Professionalism:
- Maintaining current working with children check certification and relevant qualifications is mandatory. Contributing to quality improvement processes through reflective practice ensures continuous growth and development. Attending staff meetings and professional development sessions enhances practice and stays updated on best practices.
