This is a key leadership role that requires exceptional strategic and problem-solving skills. As an EL1 Grants Policy Officer, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the effective administration of grants that support vital public initiatives.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist advice and support on grant policies and processes to departmental staff. This is an opportunity to lead a small team and shape the strategic direction of grant administration within the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and mentoring to a small team of professionals.
  • Offer strategic advice and strategies to ensure compliance with Commonwealth Grant obligations.
  • Deliver routine specialist grant policy advice and guidance to various business areas.
  • Prepare routine and ad hoc reports on grant matters, including non-compliance.
  • Participate in external forums and consultative groups to represent the department.
  • Manage the Grants Policy Inbox to ensure timely and effective communication.
  • Oversee the administration of new and existing grants in internal systems.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

You must have:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Australian Government grant practices, with a thorough understanding of related policies.
  • A strong grasp of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 and the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Guidelines (CGRGs).
  • Proven ability to provide grant administration support in accordance with CGRGs.
  • Well-developed oral, written, and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to engage a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, coupled with experience in team leadership and mentoring.
