Job Description

Police Communication Operators play a vital role in providing exceptional client-focused Triple Zero Call Taking and Police Dispatch services across Queensland.

They work in a dynamic environment, committed to delivering superior services while managing emergency calls with negotiation and conflict management skills to de-escalate situations, calm callers, and gather vital information.

Key responsibilities include accurately relaying data via voice communications equipment in time-critical environments to provide responding police units with relevant information, researching police data management systems to gather information on relevant persons, vehicles, and places of interest, reviewing incidents, assessing tasks, and updating incidents with relevant time-critical information.

Liaising with service providers to allocate resources to incidents as required by operational police is also an essential part of the role.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Participation in a fixed-term temporary Communications Operator Training Program (approximately 6 months) is mandatory for successful completion and ongoing employment.
  • A recent keyboard skills certificate indicating a minimum speed of 40 words per minute with 98% accuracy is required.
  • Typing, call taker simulation, cognitive ability assessments, and psychological assessment are also necessary.
Benefits

This role offers a 24-hour, 7-day roster with 36.25 hours per week, shift penalties apply.

The opportunity to undergo alcohol and/or other drug testing in accordance with Service policy and the Police Service Administration Act 1990 is also available.

Others

Police Communication Operators must comply with information security policies and procedures to ensure accurate and reliable information handling.

Research, interpretation, and relay of information relating to legislation, criminal, and civil issues, policies, and procedures is a crucial aspect of this role.
