Cybersecurity Professional

We are seeking a highly skilled Cybersecurity Professional to join our team in a dynamic and innovative program. As a participant, you will have the opportunity to work on high-impact projects that help protect Australia's critical systems, data, and infrastructure.

You will be embedded in real-world cyber mission work, contributing to efforts that improve resilience and security of government and defence capabilities. This three-month, cohort-based program provides an immersive experience across the cybersecurity mission space to deepen technical skills, broaden threat landscape understanding, and strengthen ability to engineer trusted and defensible systems.

Your role will involve supporting projects focused on cyber threat analysis, secure system design, vulnerability assessments, incident response readiness, or cyber capability development. You will apply cyber principles and best practices to help government and defence partners improve defense, mitigate risk, and build operational resilience.

You will work with technical teams across domains, including systems engineers, data analysts, and software developers, to integrate security into system architectures and mission workflows. You will also contribute to assessments of cyber maturity and posture, including alignment with Australian Government frameworks.

In addition, you will participate in technical investigations, such as evaluating system vulnerabilities, assessing impacts of emerging threats, and supporting mitigation strategies. You will engage in active mentorship with MITRE cybersecurity professionals in Australia and the U.S., receiving support across technical and professional development.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (AQF Level 7 or higher) in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Early to mid-career experience; we welcome recent graduates with strong foundational skills as well as those with several years of hands-on cybersecurity experience.
• Working knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals, including secure network architecture, system hardening, identity and access management, cryptography, and vulnerability management.
• Experience with cybersecurity tools and frameworks (SIEM, EDR, penetration testing tools, threat modelling).
• Strong understanding of Australian Government cybersecurity policies and guidance (ISM, Essential Eight, PSPF).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset for identifying risks and securing systems.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
• Eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Government NV2 security clearance.
