Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Indigenous Education Support Officer to join our team at Catholic Education Northern Territory.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of Aboriginal and Islander students. As an Indigenous Education Support Officer, you will provide vital support to ensure that these students receive the best possible education and achieve their full potential.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Provide classroom support to help ensure that Aboriginal and Islander students can work effectively in classrooms and on school programs.
  2. Maintain an effective liaison with parents/carers to help them be supportive of their children as students of the school.
  3. Maintain liaison with all people who provide support to Aboriginal & Islander students.
  4. Supervise students during activities.
  5. Supervise homework centre.
  6. Prepare light refreshments on homework days.
  7. Work with the Aboriginal & Islander Education Coordinator to promote Aboriginal & Islander celebration within the College.
  8. Liaise with staff and students between the campuses.

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated commitment to Catholic education.
  • Demonstrated skills in cross-cultural communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to Aboriginal & Islander people when providing a liaison service.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision in the liaison role.
  • Ability to work with teachers in the delivery of appropriate and challenging programs to Aboriginal & Islander students.
  • Experience in providing a liaison service, which involved close contact with Aboriginal & Islander people.
  • Knowledge of the range of Aboriginal & Islander cultures in the NT context.
  • Higher education certificate.

Desirable Criteria

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with all school staff.
  • Experience working in schools providing support for classroom programs.
  • Ability to see projects through to completion.
  • Knowledge of school structures and learning programs.
  • Ability to speak Arrernte.
  • Bus License.
  • Evidence of further studies.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • All applicants must be eligible to gain and maintain a current NT Working with Children Notice (Ochre Card).
  • Current Drivers Licence.

Estimated Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 per annum
