Oil Trading Analyst Role in Sydney

An exceptional opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to join the Oil Division Trading team in Sydney as an Oil Trading Analyst. You will work closely with experienced traders and commercial staff to maintain an independent view, add value by providing accurate data directly to the trading desk, and drive growth through effective trade capture, reconciliation, and hedging programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Trade Capture and Reconciliation: Ensure timely and accurate capture of physical oil and paper trades, identifying exposure concentration and hedging requirements.
  • Daily Position Exposure Monitoring: Develop and implement daily position exposure monitoring reports highlighting critical areas for attention.
  • Hedging Programs: Execute and manage hedging programs for traders, optimizing risk management strategies.
  • Daily Pricing and Forecasting: Accurately forecast oil lifting requirements across terminals and locations, ensuring seamless logistics operations.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Foster strong relationships with commercial and operations staff to ensure smooth physical oil movement and trade execution.
  • Ad-hoc Trader Support: Provide analytical research and analysis on market structure, spreads, and price movements to support traders in their decision-making.

Requirements:

  • Strong Analytical Skills: Proven ability to analyze complex data sets and identify trends and patterns.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook, with a strong understanding of working practices and procedures.
  • Education and Experience: A strong educational profile, ideally with an undergraduate and postgraduate degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or Mathematics. 1-4 years of post-grad experience working in a similar operational or analytical capacity is preferred.

About this Opportunity:

  • Salary: This is a well-paying position with a salary variable based on relevant experience, approximately AU$90,000 - AU$110,000 per annum.
  • Work Location: Available to work in-office in the Sydney CBD 9am-6pm, 5 days per week.
