Senior Media Specialist Role

We are seeking a seasoned communications professional to spearhead our media outreach efforts and bring our voice to life through traditional media.

This role requires a strong understanding of media relations, advocacy, and political awareness, as well as exceptional writing skills to craft compelling content that supports business objectives.

The ideal candidate will have experience in managing reactive media enquiries, delivering proactive content, and building strong relationships with journalists.

  • In this role, you will be responsible for:
  • Media Engagement: Responding to reactive media enquiries, delivering proactive content, managing interviews, briefing spokespeople, and developing collateral such as media releases, communication plans, and key messages.
  • Speechwriting: Drafting speeches for our Speakers Bureau in alignment with media content and policy priorities.
  • Social Media: Creating and posting content that supports media activity, while providing backup to the Social Media Specialist when needed.
  • Issues & Crisis Management: Supporting the Head of Media & External Communications in managing issues and crises as they arise.

Requirements
  • Mandatory Skills and Qualifications:
  • Media Relations Expertise: Experience in a front-line media role with a track record of generating positive coverage that supports business objectives.
  • Advocacy & Political Awareness: Strong understanding of the role of traditional and social media in advocacy, as well as knowledge of political processes, government, and peak bodies.
  • Exceptional Writing Skills: Ability to craft compelling media releases, opinion pieces, communication plans, speeches, and briefing materials.
