We are seeking a distinguished Professor or Associate Professor with expertise in Indigenous Studies to take up the position of Director of the Program within the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne.

About the Role

The appointee will be responsible for leading the Program in Indigenous Studies, developing and implementing strategies to enhance the program's research and teaching excellence, and fostering a culture of inclusivity and respect for Indigenous perspectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the Program, aligning with the Faculty's and University's goals and objectives.
  • Lead and manage a team of academics and staff, providing guidance and support to ensure the program's success.
  • Develop and teach courses in Indigenous Studies, and supervise research students.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and stakeholders to enhance the program's relevance and impact.
  • Manage budgets and resources to ensure the program's financial sustainability.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • A PhD in an appropriate field of expertise.
  • A track record of success in Indigenous Studies scholarship and research, including securing grants and publications.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with experience in leading teams and managing budgets.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with Indigenous communities and stakeholders.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a passion for promoting Indigenous perspectives and knowledge.
