Job Overview

The role of Fire Communications Supervisor plays a pivotal part in the operational areas of QFES to deliver high-quality, preventative and responsive services that meet Government strategies and community expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Effectively manage and participate in all aspects of shift operations within the Fire Communications Centre to facilitate efficient dispatch of resources.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Communications Officers, ensuring seamless team collaboration.
  • Develop and implement training programs for Communications Officers, focusing on coaching, mentoring, and skill enhancement.
  • Identify standby requirements and coordinate with operational staff to minimize gaps in coverage.
  • Notify Senior Operational staff of incidents and collaborate with media officers in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the identification of improvements and amendments to policy, systems, and procedures.
  • Allocate, undertake, and review portfolio activities of the team, ensuring effective task management.
  • Recognize and report technical faults, working closely with the State Communications Support Unit to maintain and update communications technology.
  • Prepare routine and specific reports for Senior Operational staff and the regional Fire Communications Manager, providing valuable insights and recommendations.
  • Participate in state and regional project teams to contribute to the development of operational and administrative functions.
  • Support and assist the Fire Communications Manager in operational management of the Centre, ensuring optimal performance.
