Green Space Leadership Opportunity

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced leader to oversee the green space operations, ensuring high standards and effective time management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and supervise the green space section to ensure successful outcomes within specified timeframes.
  • Ensure public areas are well-maintained with consideration of safety and aesthetics.
  • Implement environmental policies and procedures among staff under supervision.
  • Maintain adherence to workplace health and safety policies and procedures among staff under supervision.
  • Monitor skills and performance of supervised staff and recommend training requirements and performance management.

Duties:

  • Oversight and undertaking of maintenance work at Council's parks, gardens, plantations, reserves, and sporting facilities.
  • Design and implementation of landscaping construction, planting, concreting, paving, and fencing projects.
  • Maintenance of the Parks and Gardens Nursery and propagation of plants as required for Council use.
  • Research and presentation of information on new products and their suitability for use in the green space section.
  • Risk assessments and work method statements (WMS) for worksite activities.
  • Customer feedback and responses through Council's Customer Action Request System (CARS).
  • Reporting and accurate completion of workplace records.
  • Training of green space staff.
  • Maintenance, cleaning, and repairs of Council assets.
  • Emergency response and coordination of work area assistance.
  • Personal skill and knowledge updates and compliance with relevant workplace legislation.

Supervision:

  • Coordination and monitoring of subordinate staff work and performance.
  • Mentorship, training, and skills and performance appraisals as required by Council's Salary System.
  • Project management and supervision, adhering to safe work practices and meeting required timeframes.
  • Hazard identification and safety procedures and checks, including traffic control when necessary.

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Horticulture or a similar discipline at Certificate III level or above or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in a horticultural role at supervisory level.
  • Current Class MR (Medium Rigid) Drivers Licence or above or equivalent.
  • Workplace Health and Safety Construction Induction or equivalent.
  • Chemical Handling Certification or ability to readily acquire.
  • Chainsaw Operation certificate (Level 2).
  • Project management skills and experience.
  • Experience with small plant and equipment operation and maintenance.
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills, customer service, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
  • Working knowledge of roles and responsibilities under the Work Health and Safety Act.
