The Property Maintenance Assistant plays a pivotal role in maintaining the upkeep and condition of school premises. This individual is responsible for ensuring facilities remain in excellent condition through routine and responsive maintenance, safely and efficiently.
About the OpportunityThis position offers a unique chance to contribute to the upkeep of a leading Christian P-12 school in the Newcastle region. The school has experienced growth in recent years with over 900 students and 150 members of staff, operating within a spiritually nurturing environment that combines strong academic and wellbeing foundations with Christian values.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist with scheduled and responsive repairs
- Set up and pack down events
- Oversee the upkeep and procurement of tools and supplies
- Perform minor repairs on the College property
Conduct routine safety checks and inspections on school property. Ensure all maintenance tasks comply with Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations. Identify and report hazards, undertaking necessary repairs or escalating issues to management.
Equipment Management:Maintain tools, machinery, and school maintenance equipment in good working order. Order and restock maintenance supplies as needed. Maintain an inventory of maintenance tools and materials.
Event Support:Assist with setting up and dismantling equipment for school events, assemblies, and exams. Move and arrange furniture as needed for classroom or office changes. Support staff with basic technical issues, such as assembling or fixing furniture.
Emergency Repairs:Respond promptly to urgent maintenance issues. Address emergency repairs, such as leaks or broken locks. Ensure a quick and efficient resolution to any unexpected maintenance problems.
Requirements:- Equivalent experience in maintenance/property services roles
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, and general repair work
- WHS training or awareness of safety regulations in a school environment
- Current Working with Children Check
- Demonstrated experience in task completion and efficiency, problem-solving, time management, adaptability, and teamwork
A personal relationship with Jesus Christ, actively attending their local Church, and willingness to support the vision and practice of the college are inherent requirements of the role.
