The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Lead to lead the implementation of Microsoft Purview as UniSC's central data governance platform. As a key member of our team, you will bring together technical know-how and business insight to modernise how we manage data, connecting systems and streamlining scanning through a collaborative, university-wide approach.

You will work closely with colleagues and vendors to deliver a smooth, well-supported rollout of Microsoft Purview, sharing knowledge, solving problems, and making it stick for the long term.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the implementation of Microsoft Purview as UniSC's central data governance platform.
  2. Develop user-friendly tools, reports, and platforms that transform how data is managed and understood across the university.
  3. Configure and connect Microsoft Purview across our systems to map, classify, and trace data assets, giving us a clear, governed view of our data landscape.

  • You're someone who thrives on turning complex data challenges into meaningful solutions that empower others.
  • Your expertise in data governance, technical know-how, and collaborative mindset make you a natural at modernising processes and driving impactful change.
  • You'll relish the chance to build strong relationships, translating complex data concepts into plain, actionable language for a range of audiences.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Solid technical skills in data engineering and architecture, with hands-on experience deploying and using Microsoft Purview.
  • Confidence in SQL and Python, along with strong knowledge of data-centric tools that support and enhance the Microsoft Purview environment.
  • A strong grasp of data governance practices, including cataloguing, quality, security, and privacy, and experience applying these in a Purview context.
