Pastoral Care Professional

We are seeking a skilled pastoral care professional to support residents, their families, and friends with spiritual and emotional needs.

The successful candidate will:

  • Collaborate closely with the residential team to provide individually-tailored support to residents of all faiths – or none.
  • Support residents and their families in transitioning to a residential aged care home.
  • Conduct ecumenical services for Christian worship.
  • Lead discussion groups that are informal and friendly gatherings where everyone is welcome.
  • Conduct memorial services to remember those who have passed away during the year.
  • Arrange visits by clergy, pastoral visitors, and other practitioners to meet individual needs.
  • Assist people in working through grief, loss, worry, and other big questions in life.

The Pastoral Care Professional reports to the Uniting Church Synod of SA in terms of ministerial discipline and adherence to the Code of Ethics. They also receive pastoral support and appraisal through the Chaplaincy Manager, Placements, and Safe Church Team.

Key requirements include:

  • Being an ordained Minister of the Word or Deacon within the UCA, or another denomination in fellowship with the UCA, or a similarly qualified lay person with qualifications in Clinical Pastoral Care.
  • Having a flexible approach to hours worked, being a self-starter with proven leadership and excellent communication skills, and previous experience in aged care.
  • Possessing a current driver's licence.
