Job Title: Legal Counsel - Dispute Resolution Specialist

This role supports the RLA business and involves advising on life insurance, superannuation, financial services, and general corporate & commercial matters. You will take a lead role in managing the conduct and resolution of disputes and litigated matters, manage external disputes lodged with AFCA and other external bodies, and effectively communicate with senior management/stakeholders around key legal issues and potential risks to the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and instruct external law firms
  • Provide commercially focused high-quality legal advice
  • Support capability uplift and mentor other team members
  • Lead by example, role-modelling collaboration, innovation, and technical and service excellence

Requirements:
  • Australian legal qualifications and a current Australian unrestricted practising certificate.
  • Experience acting or advising on litigation and dispute resolution
  • Ability to constructively challenge, consult and advise, whilst maintaining solid relationships
  • Ability to effectively negotiate, influence and engage a broad range of senior internal and external stakeholders to drive business outcome
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Extensive knowledge and practical understanding of applicable regulatory requirements and legal practices
  • Strong relationship management skills and an ability to interact professionally, discretely and confidently so as to be a trusted legal adviser
