About the Role

The Larrakia Nation is seeking a skilled and compassionate individual to join our team as a Healthcare Liaison Officer. This role is a critical part of our efforts to improve access to primary health care services for vulnerable populations in the Darwin and Palmerston urban areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide information and support to clients on disease epidemics and public health issues
  • Facilitate access to available health services, including vaccination clinics
  • Strengthen existing transport services to assist clients in accessing health, social, and community services
  • Encourage and support individuals to maintain social connections with their home communities
  • Develop partnerships to achieve service coordination amongst key stakeholders
Selection Criteria
  • Understanding and experience of cultural protocols, with a willingness to work respectfully in accordance with Larrakia and other Indigenous cultures
  • Ability to converse and negotiate successful outcomes with Indigenous people, particularly those affected by alcohol and/or other drugs or health issues
  • Capacity to deliver a range of health, social, and community-related services to homeless people on an opportunistic basis and through an outreach approach
  • Able to form strong working relationships with a range of service providers and individuals
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the issues and cultural factors affecting Indigenous people, especially the homeless, in the Northern Territory
Desirable Qualifications
  • Identify as Larrakia
  • Willingness to undertake Certificate III in Community Services
