Job Overview

The Deputy Manufacturing Engineering Manager will provide key support to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager in leading a team of multi-disciplinary Engineers. The team's primary focus is on the development and delivery of strategic and tactical projects that align with nitrexo manufacturing activities.

This role requires fostering a culture of continuous improvement, driving results based on safety, delivery, quality, and cost metrics. Effective communication across teams is crucial for ensuring duties are performed efficiently and timely while adhering to established policies and procedures.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the Manufacturing Engineering Manager in leading the Manufacturing Engineering department to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets across multiple programs.
  • Promote collaboration between design teams and the manufacturing organization to iterate on designs and successfully transition into the manufacturing phase.
  • Contribute to design reviews, acting as a consultant to Design Engineering, providing best practice designs that incorporate Design For Manufacture, Design For Assembly, and Design For Service approaches.
  • Select and evaluate manufacturing equipment, machinery, and materials.
  • Design, validate, and approve manufacturing tooling.
  • Maintain engineering documentation necessary for transitioning from development to production, including manufacturing processes, standards, assembly procedures, test procedures, standard operating procedures, bills of materials, suitable alternate parts lists, and mechanical drawings.
  • Approve initial and updated designs, suggesting improvements to support a continuous improvement methodology in response to manufacturing issues, parts/material obsolescence, and system requirement changes.
  • Cultivate a culture of quality, emphasizing process rigor, integrity, peer accountability, and employee ownership of quality.
  • Ensure timely completion of production schedules to keep downstream work-centres fulfilled and vehicle launch schedules maintained.
  • Evaluate and forecast headcount needs of the department, identifying required skill sets for new hires.
  • Foster creativity, question assumptions, and maintain prescribed quality standards.
  • Develop and enforce system policies and procedures in a fair manner, promoting teamwork and growth within the department.
