Power System Planning Engineer

Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is seeking a highly skilled Power System Planning Engineer to join our System Design division. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the security and reliability of the National Electricity Market.
Key Responsibilities- Perform advanced power system modeling and analysis using computer simulation tools to inform medium to long-term power system security and reliability.
- Provide technical expertise and advice on electricity planning and performance issues to internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Contribute to the development of key planning documents, including the Integrated System Plan and System Strength and Inertia Reports.
- Prepare high-quality reports on network capability and performance for management and project teams.
- Engage with stakeholders to support the preparation of advice and proposals on network planning.
- Develop a deep understanding of the electrical transmission network and generation in the NEM.
- Collaborate with AEMO staff and external stakeholders to achieve strategic power system planning outcomes.
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, such as mathematics, operations research, engineering, or physics, and relevant industry experience.
- Proficient in a range of general computer packages, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and databases, with some programming experience.
- Experience in using power systems analysis tools, including the ability to use computer simulation tools for load flow and fault level calculation.
- Demonstrated capability in generating reports suitable for submission to external stakeholders and management.
- Knowledge and experience in transmission substation design, cost-benefit assessment, and probability-based investment decisions.
- General understanding of electrical power systems, their design and operation, with basic working knowledge of electrical and control system theory.
