We are seeking a skilled and experienced Speechwriter to join our team. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling and engaging speeches that reflect the Defence organisation's values and mission.

About the Role

">

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented writer to work closely with Ministerial offices, the Offices of the Secretary and Chief of the Defence Force, and Senior Executive and Star Rank Officers across the Defence organisation. As a Speechwriter, you will be responsible for developing informed, intelligible, persuasive and engaging narratives that consider and draw together the policy, strategic, international, media, public and historical contexts.

Key Responsibilities

  • ">
  • Develop speeches and other leadership communication products for Defence's portfolio Ministers and senior Defence leaders;">
  • Prepare outlines, coordinate requests for content, primary and secondary source research, draft, edit, fact check and clear speeches;">
  • Work closely with Ministerial offices, the Offices of the Secretary and Chief of the Defence Force, and Senior Executive and Star Rank Officers across the Defence organisation on speech objectives, content and message development;">
  • Contribute to shaping messages and developing Defence's public narrative in accordance with ministerial and executive communication priorities and objectives.">

The Media and Information Disclosure Branch is a dynamic and collaborative team that brings together media, news, Freedom of Information and speechwriting functions to ensure the department's messaging is clear, consistent and up to the expected standards.

As a member of this team, you will have opportunities to gain a wide-ranging understanding of the Department and ADF's work, build networks across the Defence enterprise, develop an awareness of ministerial and executive priorities, and increase knowledge of defence issues that affect the Australian public and are reported on by the media.
