Information Systems Security Officer Job Description

The Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) plays a pivotal role in safeguarding an organization's information systems. This position reports directly to the Information Systems Security Manager and is responsible for providing support in the development and management of operational information systems security implementation policy, procedures, and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct periodic reviews of information systems to ensure compliance with security authorization packages and notify the ISSM of any changes that may affect authorization determinations.
  • Coordinate changes or modifications to hardware, software, or firmware with the ISSM and AO/DAO prior to implementation.
  • Monitor system recovery processes to ensure security features and procedures are properly restored and functioning correctly.
  • Ensure all IS security-related documentation is current and accessible to authorized individuals, collect and review audit records, and document any anomalies.
  • Attend required technical and security training relative to assigned duties.
  • Execute cyber security portions of self-inspections, including providing security coordination and reviewing system assessment plans.
  • Identify and assist in implementing countermeasures for cyber security vulnerabilities.
  • Prepare reports on the status of security safeguards applied to computer systems.
  • Ensure compliance with site environmental health and safety requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • CISSP, Security +, or equivalent certifications.
  • MCSA or equivalent experience.
