Position Overview

We are thrilled to present a full-time opportunity for a Lead Scientist to oversee and nurture a talented team in the field of Molecular & Microbiology sciences.

As the Lead Scientist, you will join a dedicated and enthusiastic team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Guiding and managing a team of Scientists, Technical Officers, and Laboratory Assistants.
  • Ensuring the technical delivery of services across the region.
  • Creating and validating methodologies for the detection, isolation, and identification of microorganisms in diverse samples.
  • Analyzing data and preparing comprehensive reports to support clinical diagnostics, research initiatives, and regulatory compliance.
  • Keeping abreast of the latest developments in microbiology and implementing best practices within the laboratory.
  • Maintaining up-to-date protocols and procedures.
  • Providing mentorship and coaching to technical staff to foster professional growth in laboratory management and testing competencies.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and clients regarding testing schedules, methodologies, procedures, and results.
  • Developing and executing quality enhancement initiatives, including regular assessments of internal and external performance metrics.
  • Overseeing the execution of quality tasks in accordance with the Quality System manual to ensure optimal laboratory performance and standards.
  • Managing Work Health and Safety compliance, focusing on risk management, incident handling, injury management, training, inspections, and audits.
  • Ensuring adherence to Quality Standards, enabling the Department to deliver high-quality services efficiently.

Candidate Profile

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience, knowledge, and expertise in either of the two disciplines.
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and familiarity with laboratory equipment.
  • Strong understanding of Quality Control (QC), Quality Assurance Processes (QAP), and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated capability to identify, develop, and implement quality and service improvement activities in line with accreditation standards.
  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • This position may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department-specific vaccine-preventable diseases.
