About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Scientist to lead our Molecular and Microbiology team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing and supporting a dynamic team of scientists, technical officers, and laboratory assistants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of scientists, technical officers, and laboratory assistants
  • Develop and validate methods for detecting, isolating, and identifying microorganisms in various samples
  • Interpret data and prepare detailed reports to support clinical diagnostics, research studies, and regulatory compliance
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in microbiology and implement best practices in the laboratory
  • Mentor and coach technical staff to develop and grow professionally in laboratory management and testing skills
  • Liaise with internal staff and clients on testing schedules, methods, procedures, and results
  • Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives, including conducting regular reviews of internal and external measures of performance
  • Monitor the delivery of quality tasks in line with the Quality System manual to ensure the laboratory is performing effectively and to a high standard
  • Manage Work Health and Safety compliance, specifically in regard to risk management, incident management, injury management, induction, and training, health and safety planning, inspections, and audits
  • Manage Quality Standards to ensure the Department delivers an efficient service of high quality

About You

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise, and skills within either of the two disciplines
  • Proficient in laboratory techniques and familiarity with laboratory equipment
  • Sound knowledge of QC, QAP, and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
  • Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department-specific vaccine preventative diseases
