About the Opportunity

We're seeking a seasoned expert to spearhead the development of our Native Video Engine, driving innovation and excellence in video rendering technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement core subsystems within the engine, ensuring high-performance rendering, optimal memory usage, and seamless cross-platform compatibility.
  • Leverage expertise in graphics programming, performance optimisation, and system design to mentor junior engineers and drive technical discussions.
  • Collaborate with product teams to translate user needs into technical specifications, delivering exceptional creative experiences.
  • Establish coding standards, development practices, and architectural patterns that support scalable growth.
  • Stay ahead of the curve by researching emerging technologies in graphics and video processing, ensuring Canva's engine remains cutting-edge.
  • Drive decision-making processes, balancing performance, maintainability, and feature requirements.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of graphics (Vulkan, OpenGL, DirectX) with hands-on experience building high-performance rendering systems.
  • Proven track record in shader development, performance optimisation, and multi-threaded graphics programming.
  • Strong background in memory management, real-time rendering, and rendering pipeline architecture.
  • Experience with video processing, encoding/decoding, and multimedia frameworks.
  • Solid programming skills using system languages (C++, Rust).
  • Leadership experience in technical projects and team mentoring.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex graphics and performance issues.
  • Experience working with cross-platform development and hardware-specific optimisations.
